  Department of Public Works
The Department of Public Works (DPW) provides municipal services in two distinct program areas: environmental services/solid waste management and parking enforcement. Both contribute to making District streets and public spaces clean, safe, attractive and accessible. DPW's Solid Waste Management Administration performs a number of daily operations including trash and recycling collection, sanitation education and enforcement, graffiti removal, public littercan service, fall leaf collection, and street and alley cleaning.

Metropolitan Police Department
One of the ten largest local police agencies in the United States, the MPDC is the primary law enforcement agency for the District of Columbia. Founded in 1861, the MPDC of today is on the forefront of technological crime fighting advances, from highly developed advances in evidence analysis to state-of the-art-information technology. These modern techniques are combined with a contemporary community policing philosophy, referred to as Policing for Prevention. Fire and Emergency Medical Services
The DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department provides fire protection and medical attention to residents and visitors in the District of Columbia. FEMS regularly offers programs to teach CPR, inspect child car safety seats, educate the public on the importance of smoke detectors, provides home fire safety inspections to ensure a fire-safe environment. District residents may obtain a free smoke detector and request a home fire safety inspection by calling (202) 673-3331.

DDOE serves as an agency within the Executive Branch of the DC government to consolidate the administration and oversight of environmental and energy programs, services, laws, and regulations. Department of Mental Health
The The Department of Mental Health (DMH) was established as a Cabinet-level department in 2001. The agency provides comprehensive mental health services to adults, children, youths, and their families. DMH also evaluates and treats individuals referred through the criminal justice system. The DMH Community Services Agency provides routine, urgent, and emergency mental health rehabilitation services at mental health centers in Northeast, Northwest, and Southeast Washington.
