D.C. VOTING RIGHTS

Councilmember Cheh is passionate about Congressional representation for the District's more than half million residents. Mary has also continually called for our jurisdiction to have autonomy in our laws, especially the right to tax income where earned, a right afforded to Puerto Rico but not our nation's capital.

Mary: "I am proud to have been a member of the Council during our meeting on the DC Voting Rights Act with Senate Majority-Leader Harry Reid and Senator Joe Leiberman. I am especially pleased to have had the chance to arrange the meeting, as it gave us a terrific opportunity to highlight the bill, and the high-level support it has with the Senate leadership. As you know, the bill was successfully passed by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on June 13. I look forward to seeing it pass the full Senate."
