Cheh, McDuffie, American Heart Association to Celebrate National Eating Healthy Day at McKinley Tech

Over 100 students, Department of Health to participate in healthy food demonstration

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Councilmember Mary M. Cheh (D–Ward 3), author of the Healthy Schools Act of 2012 and the FEED DC Act of 2010, and Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie (D-Ward 5) will co-host a special event with the American Heart Association at McKinley Technical High School today to celebrate National Eating Healthy Day.

WHAT: A healthy food demonstration and community discussion celebrating National Eating Healthy Day

WHERE: McKinley Technical High School - 151 T Street, NE

BACKGROUND: In the District of Columbia, schools are making significant changes to improve the health of students and staff, largely due to the implementation of the Healthy Schools Act of 2010. McKinley Technical High School has received national recognition from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a coalition founded in part by President Bill Clinton, because it has distinguished itself with outstanding healthy eating and physical activity programs and policies. The American Heart Association celebrates the progress D.C. has made toward becoming more heart healthy on days like this, and every day, with its “My Heart. My Life” initiative.
